Hello, the car is a 2007 Chevy Impala.
When the car turns to the right it is difficult to turn, but turning to the left is normal. when turning to the right I hear a hissing as it has pressure on the steering wheel to turn right. Once you let off the pressure of turning right the hissing stops. I put on a mechanic stethoscope and listened to what it might be. It seemed like the rack in pinion was making that hissing sound. Now i did this while the car was on the ground so I couldn't get under it.
I jacked it up in the air, turned the car to the right and the thing was perfect. Dropped it down and drove around the block the problem was still there.
Is this a sign of a bad rack and pinion or what should some of my next steps be for a diagnosis
Thank you
This sounds like a bad steering rack. If you have no fluid leaks then it's probably shot. This should help explain why it is an issue in the rack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVf28sb3cc8
