is it possible to put an older 4 cyl engine in a newer truck, how hard would it be, and are there any videos showing this?  Thanks Jeff {black}:idontknow:

Everything is possible but the amount of effort you should put on that work is a lot which questions the purpose of the work.

cannot find pre 1985 4 cyl vehicles that are not total wrecks or priced through the roof/ I want to put something together that gets good mileage and that I donot need a PHD to work on., Oh and that is EMP proof

Most states with emissions control laws allow newer motors in older cars but not the other way around.  Sometimes, the referee you have to go to will approve changing from a carburetor to an after market computer controlled fuel injection system because it is far more efficient than the carb.  It just depends on the laws where you live. Or, you can do like me and drive a 41 year old 4x4 pickup with a 22R engine.  No electronics, just the basics.  I live in an area where there is no smog inspection.

I dont think it can legally be done
emissions etc

older motors may not be able to satisfy the requirements of a newer cars ecm (not as efficient)

I do not want any electronics at all in car. I want air, spark, and fuel for it to run.....

Guidry, I have been wondering this too.  I've tried to figure out what non rusted out truck from maybe the early 2000s I could do this on, not necessarily a 4cyl (though I'd be perfectly fine with that).  I'll try to keep an eye on this post in case you get some good info. I've never found any videos or much info on this but it is something I want to do also.  Every time I see a contest for a classic vehicle completely redone but with an updated engine/electronics/etc  I cringe, as I want the exact opposite lol.

I think the key things are trying to find one with a simple lighting system and simple braking system, not electronically controlled, and then just add in whatever carburated engine you want.  Early 2000s Toyota Tacoma might be an option if you can find some not rusted out and stick a 22RE and transmission in there.  Probably have to have a custom driveshaft and custom dash gauges.
