Hey Scotty
Just returned from a Service appt. (6/8/2022) and wanted to share the results. 2020 Tacoma, 6-cylinder, 3.5L, 4x4, Automatic Pickup Truck pre-owned purchased.
Heard a tapping noise around the valve cover/engine. Had it checked by Dealership. 15,713 mileage.
Results: Per Toyota: "Vehicle is equipped with a Direct Injected Engine, Sound is Normal and at Toyota Factory Specifications".

This apparently normal sound from this engine has been reported many times.
I have the same thing on my 2022 V6... sounds like a lifter tapping in the back passenger side of the engine. I called the dealer and the service manager has been a toyota mechanic for 30 years and owns and drives nothing but toyotas and also has a tacoma. He explained to me (something like) that there is a tube in the back of the engine that pressured gas gets pumped through for the reburn cycle and it is normal for you to hear it and sometimes it can be louder than other times and he said it sounds exactly like a lifter but is normal.
Sound is Normal and at Toyota Factory Specifications".
Isn't this just the typical dealership response to avoid warranty work?!
If you're still concerned you might want to ask this guy; he's a Toyota master mechanic:
