Question about Mazda CX-7 Towing Capacity

Hello Scott! I own a Mazda CX-7 2011 iSport with an automatic transmission equipped with Front-Wheel Drive with approximately 114,200 miles on it and I have a question regarding it's towing capabilities. I happened to find out that my vehicle does lack a trailer hitch so that alone has made me hesitant in considering on equipping it with a hitch. I did some research online and it does say that it has a towing capacity of 1500 pounds (1000kgs).

There was a recommendation on the Mazda website to refer to your manual before towing a trailer as doing so with little to no knowledge can lead to possible transmission damages (which sounds scary to me). I do have experiences with driving vehicles equipped with trailers, but not on my vehicle.

The reason I'm asking about this is because I do have a plan to move up to Alberta, Canada (not soon) and I want it to be an easy move without having the need to possibly spend a lot of money to get it shipped up or sell it and be left with no vehicle at all. My question is it a good idea to tow a moving trailer that is 850 pounds (tare weight) to it and driving hundreds of miles up north or should I consider other options and not do this?

Sure. A 1 time trip under the limits seems fine to me.

As long as your vehicle is in good shape, you tow at the listed weight or less you should be fine.
