My Honda Pilot has 29k on it. My mechanic says I need a fuel induction flush service. Is that a legit suggestion?
And if it is legit, is that something I can do myself?
If you think your car is not running like it normally does, you could need it. One of the symptoms is a slower response when you push on your gas pedal. Your car will accelerate slowly, As well as car shaking and vibrating while you drive or lower fuel efficiency.
Basically what it is: Cleaning the air intake valves, the throttle body, and fuel injectors. It's mainly done with different fuel additives, throttle body cleaner and so on.
Can you do it your self? For sure.
Your car is fairly low millage, typically manuals recommends that you get a cleaning every 60k miles or so. If you don't have a light ON and don't experience anything wrong with your car, I would personally leave it as it is.
Don't repair something, that doesn't need a repair.
@mascot15
Sorry. I pretty much posted the same as you. Was typing my reply at the same time.
No worries my man. More input is better, any help someone can give is use full.
Typically fuel system flushes happen around 60k miles. Are you sure he was saying full system flush and not just an injector cleaning? Injectors usually need cleaning every 30k or so to stay in top condition.
The biggest question is: are you having any symptoms of a clogged fuel system? Stuttering, bad MPG, etc?
@mod_man
It has been doing multiple "lunges" when taking off..... especially if it is uphill. I was advised to have my transmission fluid changed for that ... which is being done now. Is lunging a sign in your opinion?
Surging can be a symptom of a clogged injector. I would see if symptoms persist after the transmission fluid change. If so, I would go ahead and get the fuel flush done.
Scam mechanic trying to rip off customers. I have one like that just a block away.
