Hi Scotty my standard Toyota Corolla 96 keeps cutting the radio ever so often as I engage the clutch when I stop. Clock dims as well. Mechanic says my alternator could be shot? Thoughts. Other lights are okay.I checked and replaced the radio fuses.
If your alternator was shot, you'd see a lot more problems than the radio and clock. You can check that with a inexpensive electrical multimeter - see if your voltage drops when the engine goes to idle.
I'd go get a can of spray contact cleaner, and clean and re-plug some of those electrical connectors in your dash - since 96, you could have a little corrosion on them. Not a bad idea to check if there are any frayed or mouse-chewed wires.
Check the ground wire between the engine and chassis. The engine will move around a bit as you engage and disengage the clutch, especially if it has worn 26-year-old engine mounts.
My mount was truly worn. Engine bay is quiter.Radio still cuts off now and then but was fine initially.? How do I check if my ground is okay?
