Scotty: I drive a 2015 GMC 3500HD LTE dually diesel for towing and travel with BF Goodrich all terrain tires. Since my last tire rotation, I get random vibration in the front that feels like a wheel weight came off. Generally, it appears after hitting a bump or after stopping at a traffic signal/sign. I have the aluminum rims. Unfortunately, a tire rotation on this rig requires dismount and remount of each tire. So far, the entire front suspension (including brakes) was checked, checked the entire rear suspension, reballanced all the tires, triple checked the lug torque, and did a stress test (exterior, recommended by BFGoodrich) on each tire to check for latent tread separation. There are no visible issues with the tires or rims. The next step will be to do another full rotation to check the inside of the tires (this wasn’t done due to an emergency trip to Michigan to help my parents) when i return to OKC in a couple months. I have a suspicion that a rag or some sort of soft FOD may have migrated into the tire during the last tire rotation. Any thoughts on this? This is not causing a drivability concern, it’s just annoying. Hence, I am not planning to do any resolving while away from home as i am a care giver now 12 hours a day from 8am to 8pm. Anything to check that we missed?
ps: FOD =foreign object debris
It seems that the issue is your front tires. Replace them or swap them with the rear ones.
Yaser: that won’t be possible until i return to OKC in a couple months as the tires are under an open ticket at the dealership and i do not have the tools to do a 6 tire rotation as the tires have to swap rims. Thank you.
