OEM v Other Brand Tires

I have a 22 GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4 and with a little over 23k. I replaced the OEM Goodyear ties with BFG A/T KO3's.  The manufacturer calls for 65 psi front and 70 psi rear and the BFG sidewall calls for 80 psi. So as I said I did not go back with OEM because I am not a fan of Goodyear and tire life expectance and I have always had good run with BFG. So my question is should I go by what vehicle manufacturer calls for or BFG?

That's the maximum inflation pressure that's safe for the tire, not the recommended pressure for your vehicle.

I would vote for the doorcard pressures.

Then use 65 psi front and 70 psi rear assuming that the owner’s manual and/or the tire pressure information printed on the side of the driver’s door or door jamb confirms this. The 80 psi indicated on a tire’s sidewall is the maximum air pressure the tire can hold. 

I think he's confusing the maximum PSI rating of the tire for the driver's door placard. Typically it's in the neighborhood of 35 PSI on a cold tire. As far as I know, no manufacturer recommends tire pressures that high.

@justin-shepherd LT rated tires on 3/4-1 ton trucks run significantly higher than 'P' rated tires.

Didn't know that. Thanks. Why are their tires at significantly higher pressures? I know it's more weight on tge same amount of wheels, but I wouldn't think it would nearly double the 1/2 ton size.

Makes sense for the same number of tires carrying more weight, I didn't know it was double the 1/2 ton models. The 3/4 ton seems like it would be 50% more, but that's getting outside my realm of knowledge.

As long as it’s the correct size, and you inflate it to the PSI stated in your owner’s manual, I think you’ll be fine.

That's the maximum pressure that's safe for the tire, not the GM engineers' recommended tire pressure. Look at your driver's door with the door open. You will see a placard that specifies tire pressures. I can just around guarantee your tires are double the recommended pressures. You're playing a highly dangerous game driving around with extremely overinflated tires. You could very easily experience a massive blowout if the tire is compressed just a little bit too much. Even a shallow pothole can cause that tire to blow out, and with extreme consequences when it does.

I have the opposite experience. My previous BFGs didn't last very long. Current GYs are going strong. So I guess it depends on usage.  I think both are very good tires.I think next time I'll just get whatever is on sale.
