Should I put AT205 in my engine to fix a leaking RMS

Hello Scotty,

I bought a 2000 honda civic lx for my daughter.  I’ve been replacing gaskets when I have time (valve cover, oil pan and distributor o-ring).  Now it looks like a rear main seal is leaking.  Do you still recommend AT-205?

As a temporary fix, maybe.  The only correct repair is to pull the trans and replace it.

Really, it depends on how bad it's leaking, and why it's leaking. It rejuvenates rubber by softening it. If the seal shrank, it may stop the leak as long as it's not cracked or broken. If it's cracked/broken, it won't do anything. Nothing will fix that except a new seal.

How rapidly does it leak oil? If it hardly reaches the ground, just keep an eye on the oil level. My '99 Ranger seeps a little oil from the rear main. Between burning and the seep, it only loses a quart every 5k miles, which is great for a domestic with almost 300k miles. It's not worth the $27.99 it costs to buy a bottle of AT-205 at this point.
