Hi Scotty,
If you see this one, I had the transmission shop that rebuilt my '99 Ranger 4x4's 4-speed automatic look at it again and sent them video of the hard 1st-2nd shift it intermittently does when the truck is cold. They were finally able to get it to do it while they had it, though it wasn't nearly as violent as the last couple times it happened for me. They replaced the throttle position sensor, it was the original part with 261k, with a brand new OEM part free of charge. They said if this doesn't fix it, they will put another new valve body in, but other than that, the problem isn't in the transmission. They say it's likely the PCM/ECU. Well, the transmission did its thing again on Christmas Day, and shifted a bit harsh going into 2nd gear when the truck was cold, but it wasn't as hard as in the video I sent them. The link below is to the video they saw. The most recent hard shifts have not rattled the truck as bad as the one in the video, but they make similar a banging noise. Would you have them try putting in the new valve body, or does this seem to be something past the valve body?
Thanks!
could be the valve body but obviously they are terrible mechanics because they should have daily level equipment that would be able to analyze the transmission and seeing what was going wrong when they took it for a road test rather than just guessing but if you can't get your money back from them have them put another valve body and they sold you the thing plus they supposedly rebuild it I doubt they know what they're doing if they rebuild it they should have replaced all that stuff when they rebuilt it they probably just in quotes repaired it and did it lousy job
