Recall Repair Issue

Hi Scotty, I took in my 2009 Ford Fusion for a recall repair on the Hydraulic Control Unit in the ABS system yesterday and while they were doing the repair, the master cylinder started leaking brake fluid into the brake booster and the dealer is charging me almost $500 to replace both the master cylinder and the brake booster. I had my car fully inspected about two weeks ago and they did not say that the master cylinder was leaking. They only said that I needed to have my brake fluid changed. I also have not had an issue of losing any brake fluid before. Am I responsible for the cost of the repairs or is the dealer at fault?

you may never know. Talk to the manager and tell him everything was working fine before they touched it. Be firm.

I've tried to be firm with them but it doesn't seem to be working. I've already called customer service and they were no help as well. I plan on calling the headquarters and hopefully I can get some resolve there.

It is a good idea to call and follow up with a higher level.

Sounds like a scam to me.  How does brake fluid mysteriously start leaking into the booster only when they are working on it?

Exactly my point. But they are saying that it was incidental and that it wasn't caused by them.

It sounds like it is their fault. You might want to hire a lawyer. If you don't end up getting anywhere with it I would have it towed out and repaired somewhere else.

not worth it for $500. Especially without proof.

I would still have it towed out.

Unless there is a sealing concern on the booster (highly unlikely) it would only be the master as the problem but still replacement of the abs actuator shouldn’t warrant touching the master at all especially to the extent of their recommendation for repair.. sounds a little fishy to me
