any recommendations which retired police cars that are reliable? I was told that the newer crown vic models are costly when replacing water pump due to its labor of taking out the motor. Thanks in advance.
Don’t buy one. Even if it’s a Toyota Corolla police car, lol. Those things get the snot beat out of them
I was a cop in Seattle for 28 years, I drove a number a Caprices, Crown Victorias and Explorers a bit too hard. Even the cab companies have gone to Prius models after the fleet of Crown Vic’s dried up.
Police cars get really abused.
These days they aren't very reliable no. It's a friggen racket with police fleets and so many people are getting money on the low-low. In 2014 city of Los Angeles spent $10,267,699 buying a ton of electric e3's that they barely used. These past few years they've been selling off a bunch of them with less than 20k miles on em. For gas powered ones you'll usually get speed racer cops revving the hell out of them or super lazy cops sitting on side roads with the A/C on full blast letting them idle for 6 hours every day. The manufacturers know this and equip them with crappy parts that barely last the 3 years the cars are used. It ain't right!
dont buy it unless its a steal. all commercial/cops cars are abused
Don't buy Ford Crown Victoria that were cops or taxis, all used up.
If you find a detective car or staff car, like a Mercury Grand Marquis, sometimes a Lincoln, yes, check it out.
Lots of cities like ours are getting new Fords, so even if staff cars are still low miles, they are being auctioned off at cheap prices, like $2,000. My dad got one from the city, 2010 grand Marquis, 31,000 miles, $2,600 great car, like new, was used by mayor secretary.
Now the mayor and his secretary have new Mercedes.
But because a lot of people now don't have jobs or lots of money, those old cop cars can be good transportation for little money, and maybe last until you can get another job.
