Should I switch to Regular or High Mileage Synthetic Oil?

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic I bought new, the very last of what I call the normal height truck bed on the market. I have maintained it impeccably. I have 150,000 miles on it, I have serviced the transmission 4 times, and always changed the oil between 3 and 5,000 miles with conventional oil. I'm thinking of switching to synthetic, or synthetic high mileage. First, should I switch to synthetic, and if I do, should I go with synthetic high mileage?

Also, I have a 2009 Honda Civic LX-S 5-SPD I purchased new and it has 100,000 miles on it. I'd like your opinion on the same as above. Should I change to synthetic, or synthetic high mileage?

Thanks a bunch and howdy from Pasadena, TX.

there are plenty of answers to that questions already. Have a look through the search.

I would keep using the correct oil for your car but if you were going to switch to synthetic, go with regular synthetic.

I would switch to synthetic blend, in the correct weight, not full synthetic.  If the high mileage synthetic is a blend, great.

I would continue doing exactly what your doing. Seems to be working well. If it ain't broke.....

If you’ve gone 150,000 miles with the existing oil (and you are obviously on top of your engine oil change intervals) then I would continue to stick to that.  Same goes with the Honda.
