Why doesn't everyone make cars like Toyota

Hello Scotty! I have a very good question! We have all learned by now that toyotas and hondas both have very good reliability. So, why don't all crappy car brands like Chrysler (Dodge, Jeep, Ram) make their cars like toyotas and hondas?! It really makes no sense!

Toyota and Honda each have a long-term business outlook and a corporate culture of quality and continuous improvement. Many others (like Chrysler) are only looking at quarterly profits and pushing out as much iron as possible as cheaply as possible to make a quick buck - after which they don't care, they have your money.

It makes sense because people keep buying from FCA anyway. 2 things FCA has going for it. The JEEP name and CUMMINS. Also, Americans definition of reliability has changed over the yrs. it was about longevity now reliability means safety. So there’s no need for FCA to increase true reliability because plenty of people are still buying their vehicles. Same with Ford and GM.

Because they only make money on new car buyers. And most new car buyers don't give a damn about reliability beyond 80k miles. The goal is for sales numbers to look good on the next quarterly report, to impress the shareholders. Long term reliability doesn't even factor into the equation.

Also, Toyota is more of a global car maker than the US domestics are, so a different strategy is needed. Even Toyota switched to cheaper Mexican assembly for the American public.

Absolutely right @mountainmanjoe

Think about it... if everyone wanted reliable cars, then the "crappy brands" would have to make better cars, or they'd go out of business.

Also, I think they're after different markets. It seems like the big three are after blue collar workers, and they want either big trucks, or cheap SUVs packed full of gadgets and bells and whistles.

Toyota is doing something different. They're making sedans. Maybe they're after the white collar people. Not sure.

I just sold a 95 previa and purchased an 04 matrix. I’m not so sure the gap isn’t closing.

I think even Toyota and Honda are not quite what they used to be. Part of it is the increased complexity of new cars. Still, they are in general pretty much the best of what's out there.

If bmw want they can make hell of good reliable car that can be fast and reliable but problem is they don't.

Because reliability of these are divided into greedy culture and squeezing money out of people who don't know about cars.

Cars like BMW Audi Mercedes or even land Rover are considered as social status. So the corporate sale those cars to make most money out of there customers by making sure they don't last long period of time.

Another factor that impact the reliability. 65% of the people lease cars like audi Mercedes and BMW especially in usa from which their price drops down 40% after every Four years. If looked at used BMW only with 50000miles there price had dropped like 50% as compared. So manufacturers make sure that the owner or leaser bring the car back to dealer or specific mechanic who has there license to worl on there cars even for basic maintenance with huge fees.

Biggest example is BMW they were charging their customers to pay$80 to use Apple connect with their car which is literally free in every single car. If you think that is biggest bruhh moment my friend bought a land rover we were going from one city to another the car which cost $50000 literally broke down in middle of the road with milage of less then 50000miles. It was an endless back and forth between dealer and court to get our money back.

So long story short

Luxury cars are like a scam on tricking people into thinking they have earned s social status or something to brag about in there life

Like ayyyy I work in bank and own BMW

I work as real Stat and own Mercedes

But in reality those people are tricked into buying endless money pit
