Repair or Replace or Overhaul old 2003 Auto GT V6 Tiburon Hyundai?

Topic starter

Sole owner of a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 and recently seems the seals of the automatic transmission have worn or are showing age of wear and tear.

We had a local mechanic suggest a specialist for transmission repair in Houston, TX; paid sum of atleast 1500.00.  Not once, but twice; my sister complains of a possible third gear slippage and other problems.  Is this old Hyundai repairable to not be some lemon?  Asking for her because we will try to let the mechanic build the transmission; yet we have not idea what parts he's using or just slapping a used transmission, altogether.

We need advice because we have a one year warranty on the repair.  This is her daily.  She wants to rid of the V6 and replace some h4 6speed auto.  How the heck did they become 30k, i have no freaking idea.  ODO says 176,000 for months.  struts have check (pillow ball) mount indicators at small bumps and potholes.  Is this twenty-one year old car worth the upkeep...Scotty??

No, it's not worth it to repair that transmission. Rebuilders almost always rebuild them just enough to get past the warranty period, which is generally 1 year, or 10k miles. If your daughter likes the car, you might get an aftermarket remanufactured one with a 3-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

Replacing the actual engine, if I understand you correctly, isn't a bolts on and off procedure at all. The I4 needs engine mounts specific to that car, the automatic transmission must be able to be hooked to the flywheel, and the "new" engine needs needs to be programed into the ECU.

@justin-shepherd Sorry i was inquiring about the transmission if it should be rebuilt; or if its worth it to.

It is a v6 automatic tiburon, too.
