Hey scotty, Ive got an automatic 2wd 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8L vortec with about 146k miles on it. Ive had an issue with my motor mounts going bad. Its been about a 2 monthes I've heard the knocking and know its them for a fact. I just noticed while looking under there that my pan for my transmission is leaking at a slow but steady rate and feel it could be from the engine rocking back and forth could have caused it. I dont know if its the seal or just the pan gasket. If the issue is just the gasket, should i replace the transmission anyway since these usually go out around 150k or should I stick with the motor and transmission mounts and wait for the tranny to take a dive?
no, don't replace a transmission just because it needs a new pan gasket. Replace the pan gasket. It's a piece of cake.
It’s a good thing you are asking us that question and not the dealer (a dishonest dealer will see $$$ and potentially recommend a new transmission).
See below: if you are comfortable a DIYer can do it.
