2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac V8 engine
When accelerating hard from full stop the engine revs up but acceleration doesn’t match revs. It sounds loud and “airy” but not enough torque, especially for a V8.
Also happens sometimes when going uphill.
if truck is driven gently there is sufficient torque tho.
What could be the problem? Other than the fact it’s not a Toyota...

What transmission do you have? Automatic? Perhaps it is slipping. Maybe an additive to improve friction will help.
Manual? Perhaps the clutch is going out. In this case the replacement is the only solution.
