Right brake light of my 2007 Toyota highlander is not working even though i have changed the bulb. Day time light works but does not go bright when pushing brakes it happens only one side and other side os perfectly fine.
The wiring to your rear lights come through the backup light socket.
When you remove the back up light bulb socket from the housing and look in there, you'll see these copper contacts around the connector on the lamp housing. (they go to your brake light/turn signal. There's corresponding contacts on the lamp socket and that lamp socket goes bad.
But it just clips on to the wire connector base and you can buy another one and swap it out in a couple of minutes.
It's Toyota Part # 90075-60036 (you can buy them on Ebay/Amazon) About $15. Buy 2, the other side will probably act up soon.
Backup Light Housing socket: (notice contacts around the socket)

Backup Light Bulb Socket: (notice contacts at area where darker grey plastic meets lighter grey plastic)

This worked. Thanks a lot 🙂
Look for corrosion in the socket or wiring, or a bad ground.
