Hi there,
A local used car dealer is asking $10k for a 2017 Honda Fit, manual transmission (6 speed), 35k miles, with a salvage title. The dealer says the salvage title is "due to the mileage being reported inaccurately". I've heard Scotty tell us to run away from salvage titles, but also that you can get lucky sometimes with them.
Any advice on this? It seems too good to be true. Also, I've never heard of this reason for a title to be in salvage status. Could this be a gem? Also, what are the implications for insurance purposes on a salvage title like this?
Thanks,
Toyotaholic
Salvage title and a hinky explanation? Yeah, I'd run. The dealer can get in trouble for " mileage being reported inaccurately", but there's no way an insurance company would total a $10k car for that,
And yes, insurance companies hate salvage titles - they don't want to end up paying for fixing damage for your accident that's actually from a previous owner's accident.
Used car dealer? Liar by definition, peddling overpriced junk. If they're selling it for $10K you can bet your sweet bippy it has damage making it worth less than half that. Run away.
It’s all too good to be true. I would pass and leave the trouble to some other sucker.
maybe it doesn't have 35k.
Try to find the ownership or inspection history.
