Rust proofing

Hi Scotty, big fan here from Canada. I have a 2016 crv with 48000 km. I bought this car used after hearing your advise. The previous owner installed a module when it was a year old supposedly to prevent rust but I'm not sure If it works. Should I go ahead and have rust proofing done anyway? If yes how often should I rust proof a car that is 5 years old?

Those modules are useless. I would recommend that you oil spray it every year with a product such as Rust Check, Krown, or Fluid Film. I use Rust Check myself.

Nowadays almost all new cars have an ionized paint applied to the body before the car is assembled. It's a giant paint bath that the cars go through and this is what stops them from rusting. Scotty always mentions his Mothers car who lived in Buffalo NY where it snows regularly and her car was 10+ years old and ZERO rust on it. OLD cars that don't have this would and still will rust away easily but you only need to get a new car undercoated is if you live where the weather is bad year round like Northern Canada or something. Likely you don't need it at all with any modern car.

The big can of WD40 works pretty well too, I use it a few times during the winter after a wash. Living in central Wisconsin, we're no strangers to rust.

Also the rubberized coating in a can works good to prevent rust too.

I disagree. WD40 hardly lasts, and the rubberized stuff makes things worse.

Good suggestion.... Very helpful
