Hi Scotty,
I'm thinking of getting something different. I've been a huge Scion fan most of my life and was real sorry to see the brand go away but I know you often recommend Toyotas and I agree, they are great cars but I'm researching the FR-S or 86 as its called now and I wanted to get your take on them. Do you feel like they are still a reliable Toyota since they are a Toyota/Subaru hybrid? Is the H4 boxer engine a safe bet? Do you feel like it is as solid and well built as any other Toyota? Your advice is much appreciated thanks!
Very good out of the box, especially in manual transmission form. Not a ton of power, and has a notorious “torque dip” as you run up through the revs, but supremely tossable. Easy to handle at the limit.
BUT, being cheap sports cars, many of them have had a hard life. Finding one that hasn’t been modified or beat to death is the trick.
IMO, the dark green special edition is the one to get. Only comes in automatic, but quite an attractive car for the $.
