2005 Scion TC Stalling

Scotty, my 05 Scion TC with 199,000 miles started stalling on me. I took it to the dealership where I work and the only codes coming up were the ABS system and Coils 1,2,3 & 4 misfire/fail. The car will start and run for about 5 minutes then will just stall and turn off. After it stalls it only cranks but won’t turn over, then after a few times of trying to start it, it won’t crank. Electrical power is still there.
So far I have replaced the starter, spark plugs, coils, changed the oil and put a new battery on it. I’m thinking about trying the Crankshaft Position Sensor and Fuel injectors next. I love this little car and want it to make it to 500k miles or more. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

(The Scion tC is also known as the Toyota Avensis on the European Market)

It is common for failing crank sensors to work when cold and cut out when they heat up, then start working again when they cool down. However you should do more diagnosis before firing up the parts cannon again. For one thing I'd record live data around the point where the engine cuts out and take a look at what's going on.

Thank you so much! I finally removed the crankshaft position sensor by snipping the cord. Now it looks like I need to loosen the belt and remove an alternator bolt jus to get it routed through the same tight space. I appreciate the explanation 👏🏽

They can be a bear to get to on some vehicles. An OEM sensor is best, some engines really don't like aftermarket sensors at all. Let us know how you make out.

Scan it for codes and report back, please.
