Scotty, could you test the 2017 or 2018 Chevy Cruze Diesel, 9 speed auto. It has a 1.6L 240 ft lb torque and gets amazing mileage.. You'd be surprised at the pull it has too. I think it would be amusing and surprising to you.
Scotty is a mechanic not a magician. He can't pull cars out of a hat.
Will you bring one to him?
Take a look at the FAQ on the home page about contacting Scotty for an appointment. Thats probably the best place to start
What's most amusing about the Chevy Cruze is how quickly those things usually fall apart.
Welp, I'm not Scotty but my opinion is that the engine's fine - Opel engines are not by go-to by a longshot but the turbo diesel seems to be half decent.
The issue is the GM tranny, during "2017 or 2018" these had a very well known design issue that with the "Hydra-Matic" that causes them to shift poorly when cold. ( https://www.transmissionrepaircostguide.com/9t50/ )
Additionally, looking online, I found some complains of a very weak timing chain that's a huge pain to replace.
All of that sounds like a lot to go through to only get 47 mpg highway and 31 mpg city - significantly worse figures than a Corolla hybrid or even a much larger Camry hybrid.
So overall? Considering no one in the US knows how to work on them, not great.
