How do I replace my coolant

Topic starter

2010 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 250k maintained by me. Trying to get all of the coolant completely out of system. After flushing the system I refilled it and only got one gallon of 50/50 into it. Drained that back out since it only filled the radiator and the water pump. Pulled thermostat and put a water hose in and packed around it. Engine was around 134F...I started getting that warm coolant out of the lower hose coming off the block so I ran water until it was cool and clear...System holds approc 14 quarts,,now I have a block full of pure water and Its only going to take 4 quarts of Straight coolant to top it off. So I have 6 quarts of water left diluting the mix so I end up with approx. 28% mix instead of 50/50. Besides draining and refilling the radiator with 50/50 every couple of weeks trying to achieve the right mix I have no other ideas...Do You? Thank you LOVE YOUR VIDEOS...Much Appreciated...Full of great information!

On a side note I have a 2021 Mazda CX 30 Turbo AWD. At 30k I changed the FX trans fluid and filter. Ordered the kit from Blauparts and it came with a gasket and 5 Liters...Only got 4 liters and 150ml out...Trans has a drain plug so I am going to drain and refill two more times here over the next month...Fluid was not Blue coming out...It was dirty...As you say No such thing as Lifetime Fluid...glad that I watch your Videos..Thanks Again!

are you removing the lower radiator hose to completely drain out the radiator?

You could also remove the the heater core hoses and blow the water out, then refill with 100% antifreeze.

Another thing you can try is crank the engine a little bit, and pump might expel some water from the block. Then refill the engine block with 100% antifreeze by pouring it into the upper cooling hose (through the unhooked radiator end). Making sure to install lower hose first.

You should be able to get all 7 quarts of 100% in there.

if you don't live somewhere extremely cold, 40/60 is fine.
