Car overheats

Scotty. I have a 1991 honda accord lx with 114500 miles on it. It was overheating so I had the thermostat replaced. It's a 4dr automatic with I think 2.4 ltr 4cyl engine. It's still overheating. I'm not a mechanic so any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm driving with the heater on to draw heat off the engine. It's ok in the winter but the summer it's too hot and I'm worried about blowing the heater. What else do you think it could be. Radiator, fans, relays, I have no idea.

Given that it's well over 30 years old the problem could caused by almost anything. Replacing the thermostat barely scratches the surface. "Blowing the heater" should be the least of your concerns. You really don't want to blow a head gasket. (The car would essentially be scrap in that situation.) Depending on how badly the engine overheated that may have already happened.

See the site FAQ section on diagnosing an overheating engine and let us know if you need more help.
