Screeching sound while driving

Hey Scotty hope your doing well. My cousin has a 2005 Honda Civic LX 5-Speed with a lil over 154K miles and while driving if you push/hold the accelerator just right you'll hear a screeching sound even if you were to put it in first gear and go high RPM its even more noticeable as the screech gets loud. We have debunked that its not coming from the brakes. This is a similarity as to what I experience with my Civic and could never figure out what it could be. Is there a bearing we shall check and replace or is it something that isn't a big deal therefore don't worry about it and live with it?

Have you eliminated the possibility of a belt/pulley bearing? Sometimes what happens when a bearing (in particular) is going out on a pulley it will make noise in the way you are describing and then the noise will go away once its rotating fast enough to heat up the lubricant inside it. I would check there first because its a cheap fix.

Hello sir, so update on that it turns out both our cars the belt is actually loose and needs tightening. But my question to you can a loose belt affect fuel economy?

is the accelerator closer to the floor when this happens or is it a lighter push?

closer to floor

Buy a mechanic's stethoscope and listen to everything spinning with a drive belt. If nothing is obvious after doing that, remove the belt and see if you are able to duplicate the screech without the belt on. If no screech, turn everything by hand feeling for any wobble or grinding. Best of luck.
