Just Purchased a 2003 F350 7.3 power-stroke and it smokes out the exhaust something fierce and stinks bad. I've got a pretty good idea that the injectors are bad and need cleaned or refurbished. I am looking to buy a rebuild kit to do just that, but would like to know if you guys have a good cleaning solution for the injectors that I could try to avoid the time to do the rebuild. I've watched a Scotty Kilmer video on a cleaning solution with the Run right attachment and sledge hammer cleaner to do a gas engine, but want to know if it is effective for a diesel engine as well or of there is another treatment that works better? Any help would be great, other wise I will be getting the rebuild kit and putting the nose to the grinding stone.

If you are looking at rebuilding your injectors make sure you get the right ones. 7.3 was usually not installed in the 2003 diesel. They change to the 6.0 in that year. I looked at doing the rebuild on mine and decided not to. You need special tools for the rebuild. It is going to be cheaper for me to just buy rebuilt ones with a warranty.
When does it smoke the most cold or hot. If you are smelling unspent diesel you might have a bad piston. No compression means no fuel getting burned.
Almost nothing is effective at cleaning diesel injectors because diesel fuel is basically oil. It wicks detergents. I would look at replace/repair options. Its a common problem on the Powerstrokes.

From what I've seen and looked into, I have come to the same conclusion. I thought I'd throw it out there for comment to see if there was anything good. Thank you for the confirmation and response.
