Shocked 2009 Honda Pilot 325,000 miles

Hi Scotty, my uncle’s neighbor and friend owns a 2009 Honda Pilot with 325,000 miles on it, first engine but the transmission has been lately replaced (306 K). I never thought Honda’s engine could reach that number. Whoever it burns a quart of oil every 3000 miles but still running strong. He changes the oil every 3000 miles and drives mostly on the freeway. His goal is 400 K. What do you think about it?

Keep changing the oil religiously (including the ATF) as well as the other maintenance items, also don’t drive it hard, and it can potentially reach 400,000 miles.  Highway miles are also good and result less wear on the engine than city driving.

Thanks “

In that case, he should continue but he is doing take care of it, change transmission fluid on time...

400k is very much possible especially with highway miles. Honda does make great engines but I wish there wasn't Variable Cylinder Management on those engines.

Excessive oil consumption is a common problem on the 2009 Pilot so its expected:

Set the bar to half a million.  I think it will make it with continued maintenance.

Probably will keep burning oil more and more. In my opinion, he'll be lucky to get 400K out of it. At that high of mileage, physical hardware even on well built vehicles starts falling apart.
Who knows, though. Certainly would be great for the man who owns it!

I know Scotty hates them, but I had a 2002 Odyssey that made it to 325,000 miles before the transmission started to slip. The engine was still going strong. I didn't particularly baby it either. Just routine stuff.
