Starter went out but he can get it to start and if I don't turn the car off he said I could easily make it to my house and then replace the starter. He also said he used it as a daily and did multiple 100+ mile commutes for work. He's willing to sell me it for 1200 since tags expired in December. Its got 280k miles and he says the interior in the back is a bit torn. Is it too expensive for what it is? Let me know! Need it to get me from California to Texas and then be a daily
If you want a "daily driver" which you plan to start off by using it to take a long trip then don't buy anything with 280,000 miles on it.
I assume it's an automatic transmission and if the "starter went out" how is he going to get it started for you to drive it home?
Sounds more like the starter is good and he's going to "jump" the "S" terminal directly at the starter solenoid to get it started and that there's a problem in the starting circuit which is a much larger pain to diagnose.
Could be anything from an ignition switch to fried wiring and anything in between.
I'd "pass" on this one.
I was questioning that too but he said he had a new starter and that I could install it if I wanted to. He just doesn't need the car anymore he got some special edition 2017 GT Mustang.
We have plenty of good cars available and already here in Texas.
Haha I know! I'd totally love to get one of them too, but the problem is I've got to move to Texas. So I'd have to fly to TX, buy the car, drive it to california to grab everything i need, then drive back to texas
I get it. Good luck and welcome to Texas.
If it is for a daily driver, have a mechanic check it out. That way you will know if there are any other problems than just the starter.
On that particular car, with that age and mileage, I'd pass.
