what are your thoughts on buying a 2005 Ford F-150 Crew Cab RWD with the 5.4 Triton v8 and 175,000 miles? Would like to know about any common issues that this generation of truck has.

I would avoid the truck as the 5.4 3-Valve Triton V8 is possibly one of the worst F-150 engines out there. If it were the previous 5.4 engine or the 4.6 then it could have been alright, but this engine is downright unreliable and will burn your wallet.

Possibly the worst engine ever put in a motor vehicle.  Please, do your self a favor and find ANYTHING else.

Well it’s got 175k mi. Makes me think previous owner could have possibly got on top of the spark plug issue.Yes they are, for the most part, poop motors. BUT Ford did fix the situation and there are new spark plugs that don’t shoot out and cause issue. Make sure you ask about that and verify. Also confirm the rest of the truck is healthy. Depends on what the asking price is. I wouldn’t pay more than 3 or 4 for that truck. IF the truck was healthy and the spark plug situation was fixed.

If you buy it change the spark plugs because those engines have a tenancy of seizing the spark plugs in the engine or blowing out due to too few threads holding them in. As long as it was taken care of, and you continue to take care of it, Why not?
