When something sounds to good to be true, it isn’t. That’s what I was taught. And that seems to be the case with a car I am looking to purchase.
it’s a 2018 Ford Fusion that has 20k miles, was used by one owner in a corporate fleet, and is highly decked out with tech and a high trim features. Car is probably valued at 17-18k in normal circumstances, but as the title of this question suggests, it has been identified as a manufacturer buyback for engine failure and is going for 12.9k. But again engine failure: Certainly disconcerting.
Is this a no go situation? Should I stay away? Or has Ford fixed the problem, the car basically is brand new after the buyback and subsequent repairs, and I should dive head first into an amazing deal? I plan to keep this car for years into the future, so is this a safe purchase? And I should note, I would have an independent and trusted mechanic take a look at the car’s overall health. Any info and opinions are greatly appreciated!
I think you should run away from that thing. There isn't a lot of mechanics that are good at rebuilding engines. Look for a different low mileage one. If you like the Ford Fusion a lot, just lease it and get it out of your system for the new Ford Fusions.
Gotcha gotcha. Yeah I’d say you’re probably right. In regards to the lease, I actually have eyes for a 2016 fusion with 70k on the odometer. I got them to 11.2k, new brakes, new tires. Seems like a good deal! I really don’t want to lease and fusions are not my top choice but for the price and availability, they’re kind of my best option It seems. My current car died this week so I’m kind of in a time crunch too. I know Scotty has said he thinks fusions are pretty decent in general + I’m able to take it for a few days and I’ll be getting it checked by that trusted mechanic I mentioned. Thoughts on this?
I'm assuming that you're not driving much. I would say it's a good deal and it seems like you got to the lowest price possible.
Yup mostly driving in town and surrounding areas but occasionally take a trip to see family a few states over. But thanks for all the advice! This makes me feel a lot better about the whole situation.
Your welcome. I am glad I'm making you feel better. Enjoy the Ford Fusion.
Which engine was in it? This is a red flag - I would pass on it. You have no idea what other aspects of the vehicle may have been stressed before the engine failed as well as if they repaired everything to near 100%. You might save now but pay for it later. For peace of mind, I would keep looking.
