Yeah Hi there Scotty, this is going to be a bit long and im sorry. I would be forever thankful if you can help me out 🙁
i have owned my 2014 manual civic LX for a little over a year and a half. I bought it used with 114k miles, it now has a little over 130k miles. Since, i have only changed the suspension, i bought coil overs off eBay (maXpeedingrods) that unfortunately, has springs that get stuck and make noise when turning the steering wheel.
But thats not why im here, im here because my rear left wheel is slanted inwards from the top a little. So i think ive gone through like 4 or 6 pairs of tires since. When driving you can feel the back of the car fight, it feels like tug of war. When changing or looking at the tires, my rear right tire is smoother than my rear left tire. My right tire is bald completely and my left tire is more smooth on the inside. This thing is dangerous to drive when driving at normal speeds in the rain because it completely wants to spin out.
i took it to try and get it aligned but of course, they said it was not possible. He printed out a paper with all the numbers and on that he pointed out what needed to be fixed. He said (Rear driver side - upper arm spindle) and (rear passenger side - lower control arm). I never fixed this because i was broke at the time with no job and i just wasnt sure. I dont know if he just made it up or if the alignment machine actually pointed this out. Now that i got some wiggle room to fix this im not sure if to listen to him and just fix that or everything like both rear control arms and both rear spindles.
Now on to the front of the car. Something makes noise under the car when turning at a certain angle or going up on to a drive way for example or hitting a certain bump. Ive read online and im not sure if its the ball joint, or the control arm? Or both? Should i change everything or ?
And lastly, the gears. My gears seem to not always work, when putting it into first gear sometimes it feels like i hit a wall and it wont go in. So i have to put it in neutral, let go of the clutch and then push the clutch back in and then try to put it in gear again. And it works. Same thing with 2nd gear (sometimes) and 3rd gear (sometimes). AND the same thing for reverse. Reverse is just as bad as 1st gear. 4th and 5th not so much, if anything almost never. It seems to do this more when its cold than later when its warm. When its cold, it sounds and feels like its dry inside. Regardless of the temp, it still does it. Theres been times where i put it in 2nd and it spits it back out.
Dont get me wrong, it drives good, i love the car, and its almost perfect for me. But these problems ruin it. I dont know if i should bother fixing these things? Or if i do/should, i would like to start with the tire problem because i keep going through these tires !!! But i dont know what to do. Besides all this i havent really had any real big problems, i use it every day and its fine, i got use to driving it how it is, i know how to put it in gear and everything, even with that problem, i just have to come in at an angle when going into 2nd.
What should i do?
I would start fixing the rear suspension issues. It seems the alignment shop is correct. For the front one, Scotty has videos how to check the front suspension, make sure you check the video and you can diagnose the front suspension yourself. For the shift issue, it seems your clutch is on its way out. Change it.
Thank you so much!! Ill start with that!
Even if you love the car sometimes it's way more than it's worth. I'd say take it to another tech to verify the info if you cannot yourself. That way you can at least get a confirmation on said problems... My buddy just bought a 1999 manual honda hatchback for 1k and the thing is less than 100k miles, the issue with his is that it was a salvage title but we got it checked out and frame wasn't even dented and no airbags or weird codes. So hey. Good for him. Seems like you got a lot of issues with it but best of luck. I would personally not throw in money if I really couldn't afford it. There is always the renting route as well. Had to do it for a while when I was strapped for cash.
Dam, you got a point. Thank you ! I will start looking for someone to help me out just to confirm !
