Scotty,
Have you looked at the New Cylinder Deactivation System on the 2021 F-150 V8? Do you think there system is doomed like GMC or do you think it may succeed?
I have a 2020 F-150 V8, based on your recommendations, and where I have been doing my own maintenance and oil changes, thanks to your youtube videos. So far I have not had any problems or any oil burning. Is there anything you think I should keep an eye on? Like oil burning?
Thank for all your Videos, you are an entertaining personality!
The problem with the deactivation system is that the cylinders can cause carbon buildup and it causes the cylinders to wear out faster from lack of lubrication. Time will tell on your 2020 Ford F-150 and the 2021 Ford F-150. I will not be surprised to see that the Ford-F150 would have the same problems.
For longevity, I don’t have much faith in these systems from any automaker. If you care about reliability and owning your vehicle long term, I would avoid them.
I am definitely glad that I bought the 2020 F-150 Without it, because like Scotty says, I don't want to be there Guinea pig, but like another guy on Youtube was saying, it seems like Ford did not advertise the fact they were adding cylinder deactivation in 2021. I think the naturally aspirated V8 that most of us wanted due to reliability and maintainability, was changed in 2021 to something we may not have wanted. Including the new wet belt oil pump versus the chain, previously.
The reliable F150 went away in 2018 when Ford started using plasma lining for the cylinder walls, creating all kinds of oil burning issues among other things. I went through 3 motors and 1 trans on my 2018 before suing Ford to force a buyback. No faith in the company or their products, and I was a Ford guy up til that point.
