Should I buy this?

A close friend offered to sell her 2012 Toyota Rav4 120k (it's her daily, mixture of city and highway driving) for 8-10k. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any mechanical issues. Only some scuffs and a few dents. Oh, and they tend to brake a little harder because they don't drive with enough distance between them and the driver in front but no accidents 🤣

depends on the area of the country you are in for price, but that doesn't sounds crazy high to me as for the rest I would test drive it and if I liked how it drove I would take it to a mechanic to check out before buying it.

Gotcha. I'll definitely test drive it before buying it. I'm in Los Angeles!

mechanic

Would you happen to know if there are any issues with this generation/year of Rav4's?

Not really. Take a look at carcomplaints.com. Any car will have good and bad model years depending on redesigns. But the RAV4 has generally avoided major flaws.

Gotcha. I just wanted to make sure because for example, Car complaints for 2002-2006 Camrys are low in issues but they had severe problems. Thanks!

If it’s a 2.5L (not 2.4L) - yes.

If it’s the rare 2.0L, check that it’s a conventional automatic, and if that’s the case - also yes.

Before purchase take it to a pre-purchase inspection to verify that there aren’t any major issues with the car.
(Since neither your nor her are mechanics you may just not notice a serious issue…)

(the only things to avoid are 2.4L engines and CVTs, the rest are solid)
