Should I buy this 2017 Highlander?

Hey Scotty,

We are in need of a "new" family SUV as our current one is taking a crap. My wife found a 2017 Highlander AWD at a dealer about 35 minutes away. It looks pretty nice with 29,000 miles. The post says it was bought and serviced there. Going to try to get a test drive. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Price? Many dealers are charging as much or even more for late-model used vehicles as they do for new ones.

Considering your situation, you probably gonna pay couple thousand dollars less than a new one. If that's the case, get a new one.

unless you don't have the extra "couple thousand dollars" to be able to purchase a new one. (with all due respect to yaser)

It seems like a good car to me but you’ll have to compare the prices in this crazy market. Also, always have a mechanic looked at any used car before you buy.

If the car was serviced at the dealership where it is being offered for sale, then they should have all of the service records on file. Check the services performed and compare with the recommended maintenance services listed in the owner's manual.

If everything has been maintained properly, It is probably a good car, just as if you had purchased the car new and had it serviced at the dealership for the 29k miles driven.  At least you know that they used Toyota oil and filters, etc. It would be good to check if the air filter has been changed and with the vehicle approaching 30k miles, when is the first transmission fluid change due. If it is at 30k. perhaps they would throw that into the deal. Are the tires and brakes good?

Timing belt, water pump and spark plugs are a ways off.

Just depends then if you can afford a new car. If not, this could be the next best option. And insurance would be a bit cheaper.

Hope the best for you.

And as advised by others, have the Highlander checked out by a qualified mechanic before advancing toward purchase.
