Should I fix it?

Hi Scotty I have a 2004 Scion XB with 200k miles the other day it overheated and now my mechanic says to put a different engine it will cost me 2500.00 total for the repairs,  the car cost me 3k 4 years ago should I fix it or just get a newer car. Please advise.

Not scotty but junk it.

Other things will go wrong.  Transmission,  ac , SUV joints 

Not worth it in my view.

I totally agree with Klob.

If you are 100% sure that you need to rebuild/replace the engine, try to find a way around it to see if you can find a solution for the current engine to work ok. if not, junk it. It won't worth fixing.

Well Firstly I'd like to see what is actually wrong with your car that it needs an engine replacement,

Secondly, if you can buy one for less than the repair bill and with less miles on the clock and preferably with a service history its a no brainer,

But bring a Mechanic with you before you buy any used car.

I would junk it.  You could pick up another one for around that price, at least you can in my area (Central KY).  I did a quick search on FB marketplace and found quite a few for sale for 2500 or less, generally with 100 to 150k miles.  If you bought another, you could keep your old one for parts.
