Should I get a 2007 Civic LX (1.8L I4 5M) with 75k miles or a 1994 Camry LE (2.2L I4 4A) with 69k miles?

I'm getting rid of a 2014 Jeep compass with 80k miles. It was a bad purchase and I dont really like it. I want a car that is inexpensive to maintain that will last a long time.

I saw a 1994 camry with 69k miles that was very well maintained. There's newer camry's but there's something about that 94 that I like. Plus, it doesnt need inspections in nj, low insurance, and I wont get as bothered when my 3 year old spills drinks or puts her feet up etc.

I also saw an 07 civic with 75k miles. Also well maintained. Better mpg and manual but it's smaller.

I like both but is one a better purchase than the other?

Definitely get the Camry. In 1994 they were indestructible and probably the best car ever made. The Civic is good but in 2007 they did have some issues with cracked blocks.

Thanks @billybob! That helps a lot.

Camry is a good car. But keep in mind it’s 27 years old. Rubber things like engine mounts, transmission seals, shock seals, exhaust mounts, etc... could have issues. Even with low mileage I wouldn’t pay more than 1,500.

The Civics with manual trans seem to go forever if properly cared for. I’ve seen some over 200k on the original clutch.

Thanks @thumpy. I'll definitely make sure to get it checked out. I figured I'd have to put a little money in it initially. Now I have to find a good mechanic.

The 1994 Camry is the perfect beater car, just don't expect tens of thousands of miles out of it a year. The 2007 Civic is notorious for cracked engine blocks so I wouldn't recommend it.
