I have a r33 nissan skyline GT manual turbo 1993-1995 series 1 with 117k km
Since it takes a long time to warm up an old six cylinder, what would you say is a solution to start up damage?
I have a thermostat and valve cover gaskets on the way so far.
I am a big fan of not just sitting there idling, but driving gently (off turbo) for a couple minutes until the engine warms up (of course, it helps if you don't live 1/4 mile from the freeway.) I think that start-up wear happens mostly before the oil is up to full pressure, less so the temperature of the oil/coolant/engine.
My understanding is what you need to be careful with is shut-down when the turbo's been spun up for a period. Give things a good minute to spool down - turbos can heat soak and carbon up the oil in there bearings. Of course the trend is to provide substantial cooling, but I don't know how effective it is on that generation of Skylines.
This has been discussed to death. Please use the search.
Except no one mentioned the oil system, or engine components.
Yes they did
I started to never press it to hard when cold to see the best result once it warms up.
Although, it never can get full oil pressure at night no matter what I do with this model.
