Should she sell?

Hi Scotty, sorry in advance for such a long post. Yesterday me and my mom went to a Toyota dealership, because she said she wanted me to look at a Toyota Corolla they had there for sale for $1800. We get there and we planned to look at the car just for them to come back and say it didn’t pass emissions. Then just as we’re leaving one employee pulls up in a 2012 Volkswagen cc sport trade in with 45,000 miles and another beats us to the door and tries to convince us to test drive it. I immediately tell them we’re not buying a Volkswagen, but my mom ends up test driving it. Afterwards I told her again not to buy it, but she wouldn’t listen. She ended up buying the car for $2800, and begged me to borrow $600 so she wouldn’t max out her credit card. I’m the one stuck driving it now, because she already is stuck driving a 2020 Kia optima she still has to pay off. And prior to this I just wasted money putting 2 grand in a 2006 ford freestyle she had that I planned on using temporarily until I buy my own car. Just for us to also find out yesterday that the transmission in that car is going out. So should she sell this 2012 Volkswagen cc sport, and get rid of the 2006 ford freestyle?

Those are very low prices, particularly for used cars at a dealership, so I have to wonder what's going on there.

However it would be best to get rid of that thing before it turns into an endless money pit. They are expensive to service and note that engine problems common. VWs in general are also known for developing electrical problems as they age:

An 18-year-old Freestyle is not worth putting thousands of dollars into for transmission replacement so that's another one to get rid of. It's notorious for both engine and transmission problems:

Thank you for the advice, yeah it makes me wonder as well they seemed desperate to sell it. I also I meant to say the Volkswagen has 144,864 miles not 45,000 and as soon as I start it. It says “service now!” Yeah I regret putting money into the ford.
