Sloppy Steering

Hey Scotty! I've been having a very loose and wobbly steering in my 2002 Toyota Camry 2.4L LE, (191,000 miles & Automatic Tranny) and it also moves back and forth when I go over bumps. At this point during the past few months I've replaced nearly every suspension part trying to find the problem

  • all 4 tires and rims
  • control arms
  • ball joints
  • sway bar bushings and links
  • struts
  • inner and outer tie rods
  • CV axles

The following are not suspension but still contribute to steering problems: Power steering pump and hoses, and 4 brake rotors and pads. I've also taken the car to get an alignment and multiple shops and the car keeps having the same problem. The very last thing that I hope it is the problem is rack, which is what I believe the largest and most expensive suspension job. Now, the past 3 months the rack has been seeping some fluid but not much to affect the fluid level. I just need to know what other symptoms I need to look for in a bad rack and pinion in order to be sure that's the problem.

Your answer is well appreciated, thank you!

Well of course I'd never see it in person but commonly worn struts will do that as will any front and bushings like control arm bushings really I'd start with another alignment place. The guys don't know what they're doing. Any go to Lima guy should be able to figure that stuff out easily
