I have a 2006 Chevy Malibu v6 automatic with 130,000 miles. I feel like the car is moving very sluggishly. When trying to go uphill, it really moves sluggish but i've been trying not to keep pressing on the accelerator. So i have decided to avoid all hills. The local mechanic says that I need to replace the spark plugs and it has been about 4 years since I changed the spark plugs. Could the spark plugs be the reason that the car also is slow to accelerate, the gas mileage is worse than before, and it takes a little longer to start occasionally?

Catalytic convertor is likely the problem...the one at the exhaust manifold. Take it for a short drive, pop the hood, if the exhaust manifold is glowing red....there is your problem.

Its constipated beyond repair...replace convertor.

All classic signs of a lack of the required fuel supply to your engine. I’d start with changing your fuel filter & pressure testing your fuel pump.

It could be the spark plugs too, but your mechanic should easily be able to check them without having to guess.
