I have a 2018 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport RWD. I drove to the grocery during the recent snow storm in Texas. I could handle the slipping and sliding and keep the car under control but minor slopes/hills would cause me to get stuck with my tires spinning (even with the "Snow" button pressed). I got stuck at the drive through window of a Jack in the Box. The people behind me had to push my car to help me get going.
Will plastic snow chains work with my car? I was thinking about getting some for next time. I am not even sure if I can put them on a Lexus. I was thinking of getting:
"Baicai Snow Chains for Car Tire Chains Emergency Anti-Skid Mud Universal Plastic Wheel Chain Straps Snowy Rainy 10pcs (10)"
But I am open to suggestions. Any comments would be appreciated.
Honestly just go with a set of metal chains. They will hold up longer and give you a better grip. What you can also do is put some heavy concrete bags in your trunk.
Thanks, the concrete bags sound like a good idea.
Unfortunately, I think metal chains are illegal in Texas per Sec. 547.612 https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/TN/htm/TN.547.htm
@texaslexussteve Did you read the law? Sec. 547.612. (c)(2) says you can have "a tire chain of reasonable proportion that is used as required for safety because of a condition that might cause the vehicle to skid."
$100 for a pack of cable ties is quite funny. I can buy a nice set of tire chains for that price.
This much snow is a rare occurrence in TX isn't it? Maybe just push the car for a few more days, and carry a shovel, until the arctic front goes away and then you won't have to worry about it again.
