I have a 2011 rav4 base 4 cylinder with 104,00 easy miles. I am 73 years old. I am planning on changing my own sparkplugs and am wondering what are the odds of stripping the threads out of the head? I am quite knowledgeable with cars. I repair small engines and in my younger days I have rebuilt engines and done repair work on cars. I have the original iridium plugs in the car now and bought OEM plugs from Toyota to replace the ones in the Rav now.
Chances are slim to none you'll have a problem. If you want to get anal about it, I believe the correct torque for plugs in aluminum heads is 18 ft.bs.
Change them when the engine is cold.
Here is a video (including the details you might need):
Should have no problems. Have not heard of factory Toyota plugs stripping out upon removal. Just don't use anti-seize on the new ones and don't over-torque them. (14 lb/ft).
