Speedometer Reads Way Too Fast

2000 Tahoe Limited GMT400 body 350/5.7L A/T

Bought it about 3 1/2 years ago and at the time it was reading exactly 10mph faster than actual speed. 25k later it now reads 14-15 mph fast at anywhere more than 40mph. I have no knowledge about the history of the car but it’s very clean 2 owners never wrecked, original wheels and correct tires. Why would it do this and be getting progressively worse?

This one is tricky. If I was to guess I would say a defective or faulty speed sensor. Its a very unusual problem!

Yes indeed tricky.  How many miles?  To to be clear, it's now exhibiting additional incorrectnesses? (new word ;  )

Bought the car 114,400 miles. Now 3 yrs later at around 138,000. It has decompensated? 50% in that time span. I’ve heard everything from CPU to speed sensor and everything is plausible but not definitive. I’m looking for someone that may have encountered this in the past.
