[Solved] Honda Civic digital speedoemeter cluster segments dissapearing whilst driving

My 2010 Honda Civic with 116,000 km (~72,079 miles) has some segments on the 8-digit display for the speedometer disappearing or failing to light up completely, I'll insert an image similar to what is going on. I do remember when I first bought it used, if I sped up rapidly it'd take a while for some segments to light up. However, recently some of those LED segments fail to appear completely at all i.e if the speed is let's say 74, it'd appear as 14. I hope I don't have to replace the whole cluster, so I'm wondering if there are potentially other causes or fixes for it? It is currently winter down where I live, but definitely not cold enough to affect any LEDs. I have yet to try out slapping the top of it, but I don't think it'll really solve it.

I will say that recently I shared my car with a family member, and noticed he has more complaints about the speedometer having segments disappear than whenever I use the car, so it has seen more usage in the past year. I'd appreciate any advice or input on this.

Not my car, but same model and similar issue although mine has 3 segments missing

It's a liquid crystal display (LCD), not Light Emitting Diode (LED)

Likely the zebra strip is delaminating or getting dirty as they often do over time. If you're good at repairing microelectronics, you might be able repair it. But it does require some experience , know-how, extremely good dexterity and eyesight.

@imperator I've just been recently dealing with a lot of LCD and LED stuff it's just kinda merged into one thing for me, sorry for any confusion. If it's not too difficult to access I'll check out the connectors. In case I need a replacement, is it worth going to a scrap yard and sourcing one?

I don't know how much your salvage yard will charge, or what your level of skill is. You could also just buy a stereo with navigation and use the GPS speed.

True. I do have a dash camera I check the speeds off of. However some research shows the connections to be all soldered on in the Civic, its no problem but it is incredibly time consuming

There does not appear to be an image. Chances are the cluster is breaking down but you could try cleaning connections to it to see if that helps.

Ah, there it is! Definitely looks like the panel is deteriorating.
