Spraying under car to get rid of the salt.

1. If the underside is already a little rusted, will  the water spray get rid of the rust? If its just surface rust? Or prevent it from spreading?

2. Any sections to  prevent spraying? Surely around the engine is probably a no go but with a basic corolla, civic, chevy cruze, etc, are there any places to absolutely prevent? Electronics  I need to watch out for, or is this  all sealed off?

I have an idea for you, … a solution, here it goes: … wait for a moderate to a heavy rain. Once it arrives, get into your car and go for a brisk drive: … city, highway, anything in between. Follow others close for a change so you get their spray right onto your grill. For about 1/2 hour. Than, … right immediately, at any parking lot, stop, lift the hood and try to identify all the dry spots under it. Next, onto you knees around a car and identify dry spots all around, underneath. Make a mental note of all the location of all the dry spots.

Now, you are ready to rinse your car with a clean, fresh tap water at any time you wish! Yes, … but remember, you can safely rinse all the areas that were wet after driving in the rain, … but skip all areas that you remember being dry!

Look, in my end of the woods we drive cars in snow and salt and sand mix for about 5 months out of the year. If we venture into near by mountains often, … make it 9 months out of the year. Our cars get dirty, our cars get filthy, our cars get crusty, … our cars turn gray-white from the accumulated sand and salt, … and so we rinse them often with clean, fresh tap water! No trouble at all.

I’m just saying’, …

Go crazy. The bottom is meant to get wet. The engine can handle a bit of splashing too.

Water creates rust. It does not get rid of it. However, washing away salt is worth doing because salt is even worse for rust. You cannot prevent rust indefinitely.
