Hello everyone 🙂
Recently I’ve been seeing more and more cars made by Korean Ssangyong mostly used as taxi cabs.
The transmissions on these seem great, it’s either an Aisin 6/8 speed automatic but I can’t find much information on the engines they used.
the only mention I could find on the diesel Ssangyong 2.2L e-XDI is that it’s “built under license from Mercedes” (I’m assuming it’s the OM651 turbo diesel used on the C-class which has been proved to be quite reliable)
I see there’s quite a lot of them with very high mileages on the used market and the taxi drivers love them.
Â
If anyone has any information on their engines like the e-XDI150 or the cars them selfs as the please let me know
They cost about 3/4 of their competition and I saw this company from from making things like this in the early 2000s
To making things like this nowadays

I am considering getting a XLV as that car seems to be reliable, safe but information is quite scarce and I don’t want to get a car without knowing anything about the engine…
The older cars used Mercedes engines, running gear and transmissions. I have a Rexton 2.7 auto 4x4. 2012 with 52000 miles it uses the Mercedes 3.0 diesel engine not sure which model exactly but it's been around 30 years uses a timing chain so very good reliability I have heard. The newer smaller engines are a Ssangyong design not Mercedes they changed the engines in order to pass the emissions laws in Europe. My personal opinion stick with the older tested engines in Europe the newer engines have had problems the equipment levels are very good but can't comment on reliability. The Korando and Musso early models were Daewoo's with Mercedes engines and the cars used GM/Vauxhall/Opel engines.
Which Aisin transmission part numbers are they using? Â And is that transverse or longitudinal?
I’m unsure on the Aisin model (I’m about 99% sure that it’s a TG-80SC) but they also offer it with a 7G-Tronic (7DCT300 from Renault) and that’s definitely a transverse transmission…
It’s such a parts-bin special
Hope their quality does not follow their financial status:

I knew Ssangyong was not financially stable but I didn’t know they are nearing bankruptcy…
The good thing is that they’re built mostly form parts made by others so I don’t (at least hope) think them going bankrupt will be an issue for owners.
I see why they’re kind of unpopular after wining the prestigious “ugliest car ever made” with the Rodius and then made something even uglier with the Actyon
