Start using high mileage oil

2010 4x4 Tacoma 4.0 V6 with 162,000 miles.  I've been using Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W-30 and Mobil 1 filter every 3-5000 miles religiously since new.  Performed all recommended maintenance like spark plugs every 30K miles. Transmission/transfer case/differentials/coolant have fluid changed every 50K miles. I have no oil leaks and it runs like a top.  Should I start using high mileage synthetic oil to prolong the engine seal life or just keep using the standard synthetic oil?

I vote go with what you already know works.

High mileage oil?  I have a hard time believing it's any different from any other oil, other than the label and the higher price.  Mountainmanjoe has the right advice.

As long as you're already using synthetic, I'd just keep doing what you are doing. I haven't really been convinced yet with the high mileage oils myself.

I'm not knocking anyone who uses them. I mean, hey, at worst you still get the protection of synthetic so it's not a big deal.

I use full synthetic high mileage oil. It’s only $1 more for a 5-quart jug versus full synthetic, for the brand of oil I buy. I’m kind of a sucker for advertising I guess. If I’m wasting money it’s just $1 per oil change. Which ever oil you use, they are both good choices. Full synthetic is better than conventional. Good job, sounds like you take excellent care of your vehicle

High milage oil has a slightly different additive package than regular oil. It comes with seal conditioners to rejuvenate older rubber seals and prolong their life and also has a slightly higher amount of detergent to dissolve sludge and varnish which may be present in many high milage engines. You say that you've stayed on top of your oil changes so I doubt sludge will be an issue for you but it might be worth it just for the sake of extending the life of your seals and gaskets. I believe it is effective for rubber based gaskets but has no effect on silicone based gaskets. Cheers
