Only happened to me twice. Sometimes when I try to start my 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 ls (300,000 miles) the starter doesn't engage and instead squeals very loudly. I turn the key back to neutral take it out then put it back in, starts with no issue. What could it be?

Well pray you just need a new starter. Because if it's not that it would mean that your flywheel has worn teeth on it and you have to replace that which involves removing the transmission
