Hello Scotty
Ive been following you channel for a long time and i've never heard you talk about skoda i live in europe and in my country honda parts are a bit expencive,
my mechanist and friend toled me to get a skoda octavia vrs because its easy to access and buy parts for skoda as for honda its hard, i have a 2008 Honda civic sedan 1.8 its a manual whitch i like so i want to hear it from you about the quality and reliability of the skoda
Real Skodas have their engines in the rear.

Hello!
Scotty has friends in Europe and those who have Škodas, love them. That is the answer he has given about that brand.
I think you should wait until prices of used and new cars go back to normal. Since last year they have gone crazy high.
Old Škodas and SEATs were known to be even better than VWs and Audis. I don't know if newer ones still are.
Perhaps @dan knows more.
Good luck!
Modern petrol Škoda sadly is weak
Recently a friend’s parents’ Rapid 1.4L blew the head gasket at 130,000km (80k miles). The total amount of work needed to bring that EA111 (CAXA if I remember correctly) is insane, mechanics recommend replacing the oem pistons with forged ones…
Sadly I also remember constant DSG (mechatronic) failures occurring even at frighteningly low mileages.

I’d avoid petrol Skoda and go for diesels or just a better built car overall.
My favorite car to drive is the SEAT LÈON 1.8 (180hp petrol) but the amount of issues the EA888 can have is just too much…

It’s sad that a car that handles and feels so good is just not built good enough…
@dan do you have any experience with 1.6 TDI engines. Or is it better to look for 1.9 or 2.0 TDIs?
It depends… the EA180 1.9 was bullet prof while the new EA188 is not.
And how the EA189 1.6L is weaker the. the EA288
And there are 3 different engine families for the 2.0L TDI (considering different modifications with in the lineup probably a dozen different engines)… and all differ in longevity…
I’m curious, what model and year would you replace the civic with?
i was thinking Skoda octavia vrs 2020
Previous generation or current one?
We don’t have Skoda here. We do have VW, and the Octavia is built on the same platform as VW.
If you were here, I’d say keep the Honda, because parts are plentiful and Honda is resilient.
But over there, I really don’t know the parts situation for Honda.
VWs here seem to be decent cars. Maybe a little expensive to repair, but decent cars. So presume that Škoda would have similar quality and longevity.
lets say the current one and also the parts situation is a bit hard to get i need to almost order the parts from germany and that will add taxes on top of the part price... the reason why i want to get a skoda is its easy to get parts and a lot of mechanbics do not want to work on hondas :/
Current generation is 2 years old. I suppose it is still in phase of perfection. So you will have one of 'guinea pigs' cars.
As @dan said, if you’re considering Škoda, only stick to the diesels..
the thing is i dont like diesel...
